Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) often have no symptoms, especially in the early stages. Many women do not realize they have an infection until complications develop. Testing is an important step in protecting your reproductive health, particularly if you are pregnant or have had a recent change in sexual partners.
Options Clinic provides no-cost, confidential STI testing for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis for female clients. Testing is performed in a medical setting, and results are discussed privately during your appointment.
Why Testing Matters
Untreated STIs can lead to serious health concerns. Some infections may increase the risk of pelvic inflammatory disease, chronic pelvic pain, infertility, or other complications. If you are pregnant, certain infections can also cause miscarriage, preterm labor, infection, and more.
Even without noticeable symptoms, an infection can still be present. Common symptoms when they do occur may include:
- Unusual discharge
- Burning or pain during urination
- Lower abdominal pain
- Pain during sexual intercourse
- Sore, swollen lymph nodes (usually in the groin)
- Abnormal bleeding
- Fever
However, many infections remain silent. Testing allows you to identify and address a problem early.
Treatment Options
If you test positive for chlamydia, gonorrhea, or trichomoniasis, Options Clinic can provide treatment in-house. Offering treatment at the time of diagnosis helps reduce complications and limit further transmission.
While we do not provide STI testing for male partners, if a female client tests positive for one of these infections, we can provide treatment to her male partner.
