Considering Adoption?
If parenting does not feel like the right path for you right now, adoption may be an option worth learning more about. Adoption today is very different from what many people imagine. You are not giving up your child; instead, you are making a plan for your child’s future.
At Options Clinic, we offer no-cost, confidential appointments where you can talk through what adoption looks like and how the process works. Learning about adoption does not mean you are committing to it. It simply lets you explore all your options before making a decision.
Types of Adoption Plans
Modern adoption gives you choices. You can decide what level of involvement you want and how much contact you would like in the future. However, it’s important to note that adoption is not the same as co-parenting. You fully transfer parental rights to the adoptive parents.
There are three adoption plans you can choose from, with varying levels of contact with your child and the adoptive family.
Open adoption allows you to choose the adoptive family and maintain ongoing contact. This may include visits, phone calls, letters, or photos, depending on what you and the adoptive family agree upon.
Semi-open adoption provides updates through an agency or attorney. Communication is shared without exchanging personal contact information.
Closed adoption involves no ongoing contact after placement. Identifying information remains private. Though this option is less common, it may be ideal if you have safety concerns or want to remain completely anonymous.
You can select the adoptive family and review profiles before making a decision. Reputable adoption agencies also provide guidance throughout pregnancy and after placement.
Financial and Practical Support
In most cases, adoption-related medical and legal expenses are covered. Depending on your situation, additional support may be available for maternity clothing or other needs during pregnancy.
Our staff can connect you with trusted adoption professionals who will walk you through each step.
