Confirm Your Initial Result

If you think you might be pregnant, taking a pregnancy test is the first step. Home pregnancy tests can be helpful, but they are not always used at the right time or according to instructions. Testing too early can lead to inaccurate results.

Options Clinic provides no-cost, lab-quality urine pregnancy testing in a professional medical setting. Our goal is to provide you with reliable information before you decide what to do next.

How Pregnancy Tests Work

Pregnancy tests detect a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin, or hCG. This hormone begins to increase after a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. The amount of hCG in your body rises as the pregnancy progresses.

Testing too soon after a missed period may result in a negative test even if you are pregnant, simply because hormone levels are not yet high enough to be detected. During your appointment, our staff can talk with you about timing and whether repeat testing may be needed.

You will receive your results during your visit, and our staff will review them with you in a confidential setting.

What Happens After a Positive Result

If your pregnancy test is positive, it’s crucial to have an ultrasound. Ultrasound can confirm how far along you are, whether the pregnancy is progressing, and if it is located in the uterus.

Without this crucial scan, you won’t get the full picture of your pregnancy and whether you need medical treatment due to conditions like ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage. Ultrasound will also give you a better idea of your available options.

Advocacy & Support Services

Every client who visits Options Clinic has access to confidential advocacy services. You can meet with a staff member to talk about your situation, ask questions, and consider next steps. We provide a supportive space to process information and connect you with trusted community resources.

Men looking for guidance during a pregnancy are also welcome to speak with a male advocate. You can ask questions, discuss ways to support your partner, and find helpful resources for your family.
